Nissan Recalling Over 600,000 Vehicles in the U.S.

Steering and battery cable problems are prompting the recall of approximately 604,500 Nissan vehicles in the U.S., Canada and Latin America and comes on the heels of a much larger recall earlier in the year.

For this recall, Nissan will be replacing the lower column steering joint and shaft on about 303,000 Nissan Frontiers and about 283,000 XTerras. Affected models were manufactured between July 2001 and January 2005 at the company’s plant in Smyrna, Tennessee and from November 2001 to June 2008 at the company’s plant in Curitiba, Brazil.

Frontiers and XTerras are popular vehicles around Denver and the Rocky Mountain west. Many use them to enjoy rural mountain roads and other outdoor activities.

Problems with steering could potentially have disastrous consequences for drivers and passengers

The company says that the lower steering column joint can corrode in some cases, limiting the steering joint’s movement. If the problem goes unaddressed, the steering shaft could crack.

Although no injuries or accidents have been reported because of this problem, the company is urging owners of 2001-2004 model year Frontiers and XTerras to bring their vehicles in for free replacement parts.

In addition to these steering problems, Nissan is also recalling approximately 18,500 Sentras because of a defective positive battery cable terminal that if unaddressed, could lead to difficult starting or stalling at slow speeds.

Affected models were manufactured between May 5th and July 8th of this year.

If you own any of these affected models, visit your nearest Nissan dealership to have these issues addressed.

And if you’re adversely affected by this or any other defective products, contact Denver personal injury attorneys at the Babcock Law Firm today for a free consultation.
