8,500 Polaris Four Wheeler ATVs Recalled

December 28, 2009

Many ranchers, hunters and ATV enthusiasts enjoy four wheeler ATVs around Colorado’s Rocky Mountains…many may even be purchasing a new one during the Christmas season.

But if you’ve purchased certain Polaris models, you may need to make a trip back to the dealer after a recall of 8,500 Polaris four wheeler ATVs were recalled by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Issued two days before Christmas, the CPSC recalled the following models after 20 reports of front ball (i.e. suspension) joints separating from the steering mechanism, which can the rider to lose control, surfaced.

•    2009 Sportsman XP 550
•    2009 Sportsman XP 550 EPS
•    2010 Sportsman 550
•    2010 Sportsman X2 550
•    2010 Sportsman Touring 550
•    2009/2010 Sportsman XP 850
•    2009/2010 Sportsman XP 850 EPS
•    2010 Sportsman Touring 850

Affected models were sold at Polaris dealers in the United States from February 2009 through November for between $7500 and $10,800.

If you have this model, discontinue use immediately and contact your local Polaris dealer. Locate your VIN next to the front shock on the frame rail on the front ride side of the ATV and contact your local Polaris dealer to find out if your model is affected.

And if you have any questions about personal injury and ATVs, contact Colorado personal injury attorney R. Mack Babcock today.
