WARNING: Recall of 400,000 Drop Side Cribs after Infant Death

July 24, 2009

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued another recall for drop side cribs manufactured by Simplicity, Inc., who was forced out of business due to prior recalls in 2007.

This latest recall was issued after an 8 month old child in Houston, Texas died when a plastic connector broke loose and trapped the youngster between the crib and drop side. Over 400,000 drop side cribs are involved in this recall.

At least 25 incidents involving the drop side detaching from the cribs have been reported. Mostly, they are due to flexible plastic tabs, connectors or tracks becoming loose or deformed. Some retailers have decided to stop carrying the drop side cribs altogether and some major manufacturers called for a nationwide ban in March.

The newest Simplicity drop side crib recall affects cribs with a newer style plastic hardware that can be identified by a flexible plastic tab at the top of the lower tracks. Model numbers include but are not limited to: 8050, 8325, 8620, 8745, 8748, 8755, 8756, 8765, 8778, 8810, 8994, 8995 and 8996.

If you have this crib, the CPSC and your Denver personal injury attorney recommend you discontinue use immediately and find alternative sleeping arrangements for your child. The crib can be returned to the store for a full refund or exchange.

And in the event of the unthinkable, turn to the expert Denver wrongful death attorneys at the Babcock Law Firm for a free, no-obligation consultation.
