Asset Searches and Car Accident/Personal Injury Cases

If you’re injured in a car accident or some other incident due to someone else’s negligence, you often times have grounds for obtaining compensation for your injuries, property damage, lost wages, etc.

To deal with the impacts of the injury, there is of course your own insurance company.

While this resource can help with immediate expenses, it often times isn’t enough to cover the long term costs of your injury because of payout limits. More so, many insurance companies resist paying out the maximum policy amount.

In this case, a personal injury or car accident attorney can seek damages from the at-fault party.

If you must go this route to make you “whole” following an accident, one of the first things your attorney will need to do is conduct an “asset search” to understand how the guilty party can satisfy any potential judgments to compensate you for your damages and losses.

In the end, one of the duties of a good personal injury attorney is to present their client with all available options.

Asset searches are pretty inexpensive, costing anywhere between $159 and $300 – it’s certainly worth the cost to determine if you can build a case against the individual or party responsible for your injuries. Asset search companies like Asset Search Plus, Inc. look nationwide for both individual and corporate assets.

In addition to finding assets in the defendant’s name, searches also finds where an individual or company may be concealing assets through a family trust or partnerships and provide that information to your attorney in the search report.

Here are a few things an asset search will verify:

  • Subject’s name and address
  • Drivers License info
  • Real estate, vehicles, boats, motorcycles
  • Bankruptcies, liens and other judgments
  • Professional licenses
  • Employment information

The only information you and your attorney need to conduct an asset search is the defendant’s name and last known address.

If you’ve been injured in a car accident or some other incident caused by someone else’s negligence, you owe it to yourself to conduct an asset search. When evaluating car accident attorneys in Colorado, be sure you ask about an asset search.
